What a good little movie this is. An Aussie film made in 2003 starring Rhys Ifans and Miranda Otto, you know Eowyn, it was weird, it took me a minute or two to figure out where I had seen her.

I am not a big fan of "feel-good romantic twaddle", but this was great fun.

A guy who is bored with his hum-drum life in the big city is hosting a BBQ for his obnoxious friends and accidentlally ends up taking off in a deck chair strapped to giant helium-filled balloons. He goes up up and away so far he disappears from sight, he is presumed lost. He crash lands in a little town far far away form his old life and starts a new one.

If you ever run across this little gem, do give it a watch.

I had forgotten about this movie. I remember seeing a preview for it back when it came out and I wanted to see it. Thanks for the reminder Oz!

wasn't that the Degenerate roomate in Notting Hill?I haven't seen Notting Hill, but since I listened to the film commentary, I can say, why yes he was.

Rhys Ifans was extremely loveable in this movie.

Some quotes from Rhys...

I'm a factory-floor actor. I learn the lines, I get there on time. I don't sit around with other actors and talk about the pain and the magic of acting. I'd rather just go down the pub. That's where the real magic happens. That's often where the ideas take flight. Very underrated, the pub, in terms of the history of creativity.

'I work hard and I party hard. When I go to work, I know what I am doing and I do it to the best of my abilities. When I party, I take exactly the same rule book with me. Except I might turn up later and outstay my welcome. I really don't know why that interests anybody, given that most of the population behaves in exactly the same way.

Rhys Ifans also gave us a brilliant portrayal of Peter Cook in the TV film Not Only But Always (with Aiden McArdle as Dudley Moore)

Oh yes I can see how that would work brilliantly.

I saw Danny Deckchair a while back. Good little movie! It's got a fresh idea and "real people" type characters.
