Yes, of course it did. Briefly:the French New Wave basically started as a critical response to French critics discovering American films that had been made during World War II, films that, for obvious reason, began to be screened in France after the war had ended. Some of those French critics became filmmakers, and together the criticism and those films fed the rise of film schools in the US and the idea of film history in general. And of course film school produced a whole generation of filmmakers--Coppola, Scorsese, Spielberg, Lucas, DePalma, etc, etc--who went on to reinvigorate American film as the "studio system" of classical Hollywood failed.

And then there's the New Wave bands to consider.

Well, what happened in the wake of Spielberg and Lucas was that the studios were absorb by giant, faceless multinational corporations, which were then absorbed by other giant, faceless multinational corporations. Etc, etc.

. . . meet the new boss, same as the old boss :(

I remember seeing films that began with the logo of one of the studios with the words 'Part of the Coca Cola Corporation' underneath..which was just ludicrous!

I suppose it could be seen as an admirable degree of honesty.

But I'm really clutching at straws.

This entire thread sounds like the requiem of a dream...
