Name of a French speaking foreign film in the 90's

I have been searching for this movie I believe it's a film noir. I don't know if it's French Canadian or from France. It's about an older man and younger woman who fall madly in love then he leaves her and she's crushed. She cuts her hair and I think tries to kill herself, she is a real mess then He becomes invalid and is in a wheel chair and she ends up taking care of him.

Can anybody help me and tell me the name of this movie

Sounds like a reversed, French "An Affair to Remember" lol.

Sounds like it should be a Chabrol movie, but I don't think it is.

Could it be the "The Return of Martin Guerre" - subtitles in English - but believe this was much older than nineties... hope this helps - was the first one that I thought of.
