I think some of those count as 2008, buddy.

Defiance and Slumdog were released *HERE* in LATE December and I saw them in EARLY January. For me, they are 2009. Ken

You go by theatrical release....and if *HERE* is Milwaukee, then it will be the same *HERE* in Minnesota....where I am. Gran Torino, Slumdog, Defiance...all 2008s. If I just saw Star Wars for the first time in 2009, doesn't make it a 2009 film ;)

I haven't seen jack sh!t this year, I can't even remember the last time I went to a theater. I just haven't had time to go to the movies. Star Trek I think was the last one I saw on the big screen.
Best thing I've seen all year is Faust 1926 and that was a private screening in my living room.
mr j
I dont know how technical you are getting? If its released on December 28th and I listed it for 2009, am I kicked off the message board now? I dont even get a warning? January 1st AND December 31st are the same year. Do we also count which time zone the movie came out in? Ken
Ozma
Yup, you're toast! lol
But seriously, you can't say Best of 2009 if it came out in 2008, regardless of when it got to a theater near you.
fizzlefi
I count slumdog as a 2009 film as it was officially released in the UK on 9th January 2009.
Star Trek has to be one of the best films of the year for me.
Samson.Real5
:) I think Slumdog Movie is best of 2009. Because the storyline was good and the location was different from others and somewhat its a real good moive.
Will Turner
My favourites so far are without a doubt Transformers Revenge of the Fallen, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince & Star Trek
I dont know Slumdog didnt really do it for me...
Mika

The Hangover and The Proposal were both hysterical. Sometimes you just need a comedy.

Loved Transformers. There's just something about huge robots beating each other up....

Have to admit that when I saw 'best films of 2009' I really struggled to remember when I had actually seen certain films...seasons all jumbled up etc etc..but the films I have seen over [I think] the past few weeks and months [hopefully not years but I'm not ruling it out] are Moon, Slumdog and Let the Right One In. In fact, I can't remember the last time that there were so many films that I really wanted to see and, when I did wasn't disappointed in them. A semi golden era film wise for me.
JWF
With all due respect, a film falls into the year it's first release in a US theater. Unfortunately, many films are released on a limited basis. For example; I saw "Grand Torino" on December 12, 2008. It was limited to NYC and LA (maybe a few others). Usually it's a wait and see, before it goes wide release. Many may not have see the terrific Clint Eastwood film until 2009. It's not a "big deal", but for record purposes I have GT and "Slumdog" under 2008. For a film to be eligible for the Oscars it must be released in the US.... at least one theater....before 1/1/09.
