View Full Version : Lucio Fulci: The True Father of Gore
Bullwinkle
The man couldn't wrangle a coherent plot if his life depended on it, but damn it if that'll stop me.
Mr. Fulci has contributed to Italian horror cinema on the same level (in my opinion) as Argento. Quentin Tarantino frequently lists him as a major source of inspiration, particularly from his cult classic "The Beyond" which features both a woman's face burned off by acid AND a man's face eaten by spiders! Call me a deviant if you want, but this is the equivalent of a quart of ice cream on the guilty pleasure scale as well as another one of his movies "City of the Living Dead aka Gates of Hell".
Fulci will always hold a special place on my DVD mantle because he didn't care what the studios or civilians thought of his work. He simply did what he thought worked and clicked with his major audiences. And what filmmaker doesn't want to do that? Whether microwaving a woman's head or having a blind girl mauled by her pet German Shepherd, Lucio Fulci has always entertained circles and deviants like me, plot be damned.
