Hey any of you guys ever go to any concerts... I used to attend a lot of rock concerts...I don't go to as many as I used to but I am so excited that I am going to go to AC/DC on January 19th!!!!!!!!!!
I have seen a lot of bands....just to name a few:
Rob Zombie (3x)
Megadeth
Shooter Jennings
David Allan Coe
Ozzy
Metallica
Black Label Society (3x)
Godsmack
Static-X (2x)
Ministry
Deftones (2x)
The Guess Who
....many, many more.
So, who have you guys seen live?
Kermit
I've only ever been to 2 concerts:
The Offspring (Wembley Arena)
Less Than Jake (The Forum)
Both were pretty great though. I'm not much of a concert person really.
SilverScreenAddict
I've seen a lot of indie type artists (too many to name them all) and a few well known. Let's see...
Oasis
Alice Cooper
Ryan Adams
Jackie Greene
Josh Ritter
Phil Lesh & Friends (w/Larry Campbell, Jackie Greene, John Molo, Steve Molitz)
Levon Helm
Gandalf Murphy and the Slambovian Circus of Dreams
Dougie MacLean
Rufus Wainwright
Stephen Kellogg and the Sixers
Matt Costa
77's
The Avett Brothers
And many many more...
I'm jealous you were able to see Shooter Jennings! He's AWESOME.

Yes, the world would be a better place if everyone listened to Shooter.

Don't go to nearly as many gigs as I used to ..the last one was back in October when the brilliant Half Man Half Biscuit made one of their rare trips to London and played the Forum.
Kermit
cool ..
:D
Thanks for that.
I see you went to The Forum recently, Charlie. How do you rate that in terms of music venues? I've not got much frame of reference as I've only been to 2 different venues in total.

Which two? And I'll give you a comparison..assuming I've been there too

The other was Wembley Arena. I preferred The Forum as it was a lot more intimate and we were only about 10-15 yards from the stage. Wembley Arena is big but I think it's better for other events - I saw Bill Bailey there last year.

Venues the size of Wembley are only good for huge, huge bands who have massive screens behind them so you can see what's going on from row ZZ!!(Aerosmith, KISS, The Stones, Springsteen etc)
The Forum is a great venue for all other bands. Being a converted theatre/cinema it has a decent size stage for most band sizes..a good sized dance floor, pretty good view of the stage from jusrt about anywhere in the venue and I think they even have seats and tables upstairs..although I've never been upstairs. It's like a slightly larger version of the Shepherd's Bush Empire (another converted theatre).
Like all these sort of venues though, the Forum bar sells over priced tinned beers served in plastic glasses. You're better off getting all your alcohol needs in the Bull and Gate pub next door before going into the gig!

Ive been to:
Kaiser Chiefs
Snow Patrol
The Killers
Wolfmother
Muse
U2

I highly recommend Iron Maiden in concert. I went to see them last June (I think it was) and they were spectacular.

Iron Maiden would be something to see. I'm not a huge fan and don't follow them much tho. Is Bruce Dickinson back with them?
A band that's not that great but puts on a crazy, theatrical show that is just fun to be a part of is Gwar...I saw them day after Halloween and I'm still spitting fake blood and alien semen.
...9 more days til AC/DC!!!!!!!!!!!!
moehat
saw Arcade Fire in Nottingham a while ago; just as it was getting really good some idiot threw a bottle of water onto the stage and Win walked off..the concert eventually continued but the magic had gone...would love to see them again.....
dimebagdustin
So I finally got to see AC/DC live in concert for the first time. All I can say is it was amazing!

Saw them back on Virtual XI with Blaze...then on Matter of Life and Death tour and more recently on the Somewhere back in time tour...everytime I've been impressed!!!! (Blaze doesn't come close to Bruce, but was certainly under-rated IMHO)

My two favorite concerts I have been to recently are Jonny Lang and Staind :)

Not 100% sure on this, but I believe that are natives of my home state, Minnesota.

In October a pal and I are going to see Mott The Hoople. (Everyone under forty says "Who???")
They've reformed for a series of 30th anniversary gigs..
dimebagdustin
I'm only 25, and I've heard of Mott..., of course the only song I know is "All the Young Dudes"
CallUrBluff09
I've seen a few good concerts ... but i would have to say my favorite was Madonna's Confession tour... I'm excited to see britney's too this spring!

Yes, I got the tickets because of how entertaining the EWKS DVDs were...It was pretty good. He was on a time frame which kinda sucked. He was limited to three hours, but some of the stories he told were hilarious! Just as funny as the DVDs and of course you could line up and ask questions. Mewes was there too and spent most of the evening parked on a couch drinking Red Bull. I had lower level seats with his wife (who kept taking off with Schwal backstage, they were pretty tanked by the end of the evening)...all of the people who had seats facing the back of the stage were actually brought to sit ONSTAGE at Kevin's request...He had a lot of good stories, apparently he's become quite the stoner now since making Zac and Miri...thanks to Seth Rogen! He is also currently having a fascination with Wayne and Walter Gretzky!

Most people know All the Young Dudes now thanks to Guitar Hero: Aerosmith...I had heard of them before (Bruce Dickinson Cover of that song got me into Mott)....Didn't realize they were still touring. Just to think if Bowie hadn't have saved them back in the day they probably would have broken up without much success...

Cool, was just saying that a lot of younger people (teenagers etc...) would know Mott the Hoople from that song as it was in Guitar Hero: Aerosmith seems to be a way of introducing older music to younger people... (It is a fun game if you give it a chance! LOL)

Sweet! Zakk Wylde is one of the most talented musicians out there. Guy can play piano, banjo, and is one of the best living guitar players (electric and acoustic)....not to mention a great singing voice. He can do a beautiful, slow ballad and then turn around and rock your balls off with some loud bellowing metal!
TylerDurden
There are numerous concerts coming up that I'd like to go to but saving for a wedding and a house and all that other stuff you're supposed to do at my age is putting a dent in the social life. :(
I am seeing Flogging Molly in a couple weeks though.
paulbg2000
Got tickets to see Judas Priest / Whitesnake in July...and then taking the little ones to see *deep breath* The Jonas Brothers in August...

Went and saw Slipknot last night....they are 50 times better live than they are on cd.

There is a song by Half Man Half Biscuit* that is sung to the tune of The Battle Hymm Of The Republic (Glory Glory Hallalujah, etc) that goes:
The singer out of Slipknot went to Rome to see the Pope,
The singer out of Slipknot went to Rome to see the Pope,
The singer out of Slipknot went to Rome to see the Pope
And the Pope said to his aide...
"Who the f*cking hell are Slipknot?
Who the f*cking hell are Slipknot?
Who the f*cking hell are Slipknot?
In relation to me getting out of bed" :D
* best band in the world!!!!

The best concert I ever went to was The Prodigy last December in Sheffield. They were amazing and had so much energy. I was at the front and got to touch Keith Flint. Maxim came down off the stage as well. Best night of my life. :D
I've also been to see Nine Inch Nails who were great and Nightwish. The worst concert I've been too was HIM. They were awful!
fizzlefi
Very excited! Just bought tickets to see placebo and skunk anansie! Yay!
paulbg2000
Saw Judas Priest and Whitesnake last night....7 rows back from the pit. Amazing show....David Coverdale is old....watching him do perverse things with a mic stand is just plain creepy at his age (although Steven Tyler can still pull it off)...

I'm going to Lacuna Coil and Seventh Void on Sunday night.

Lucky! I love Lacuna Coil!

My boss went to see Prodigy a while ago and said they were amazing [must admit they're not my cuppatea]. Being obsessed with Kasabian I was a bit disgruntled to hear that my daughters brother in law and his girlfiend had been to see Oasis the other day; knowing they were touring with Kasabian I said how envious I was until B in L's girlfriend pointed out that she had urine thrown over her. Am I just getting old or is that a bit yucky? Can't believe Placebo are still going strong [or possibly even stronger]. Absolutely loved them years ago, but last time I saw Brian[?] on the telly he looked really run down. Must listen to some of their newer stuff; I think their latest album is doing really well. It was never really cool to admit to liking Placebo. Does anyone know what Arcade Fire are up to at the moment? Would love to see them again!

I've gotten to interview them with a buddy.....well i filmed while he interviewed, Then we all got drunk at the bar :p

Saw Green Day last night as my son likes them and wanted to see them....What happened? I used to listen to them when Dookie came out (and I was in High School)...Back then they were snarling, attitude and fists in the air...
Last night it was all about getting the crowd to chant, wave their hands in the air (a la New Kids on the Block) and taking continuous breaks during songs (Yes...I have heard the 10 minute version of Hitchin' A Ride...) I think the Makeup is getting a bit too much for them...It guess it isn't fair that I saw Priest last week and am comparing it to that concert...
One cool thing I will say, The brought two different teenagers up from the audience to sing Longview...and brought one kid holding up a sign saying "Me + Guitar = Jesus of Suberbia" up on stage to play Guitar with them (mind you, pretty low in the mix)...
Final note, interesting that a man who preaches to the audience about "F**k the media, they manipulate everyone and brainwash people" proceeded to brainwash a stadium full of teenagers to sway their arms over their heads in a New Kids Hangin' Tough style manner....errrmmm...No Thanks, I passed on that one...I'd rather Pump my fist, but it looked a bit out of place.

Saw The Black Crowes on the 5th. Met Chris Robinson (former Mr. Kate Hudson) backstage. My sis and I knew the opening band... no not that way, gutterbrains

There is an awesome acoustic cover that the black crowes did of Sypmathy for the Devil

No, actually he didn't seem as hyped up as I would have expected. Not completely sober, mind you, but not bad
dimebagdustin
Black Crowes rock!
and Paul...I am very sorry that you had to go to a Green Day concert. IMO, probably the worst band of all-time. I would rather go to a concert that featured Aqua, Baha Men, and Billy Ray Cyrus than listen to three seconds of a live Green Day song.

That was the 90's, I'm sure they, and everyone else, are over whatever they were pissy about. :p
Honestly Green Day never did it for me, too much politics in their music. I use music as a break from the world, not to listen to people whine about how much they hate the government for 12 straight songs.

Well, the Green Day was more for my son....It was funny watching the band start to play Crazy Train and then stop the soon as it got to the first pull-off run....then start Ain't Talking about Love and again stop....and then Four Horsemen...and stop. I'm pretty sure they couldn't nail either one of those songs from top to bottom! :D
Next up...Nickelback (with Hinder, Pappa Roach and Saving Abel) (Early August). My wife got tickets for her birthday...I've seen Nickelback twice and Pappa Roach once. Hinder might be good live...
My next choice coming in September, Dragonforce are coming...so are Motorhead. Need to make a choice...I like Dragonforce, they're like the Malmsteen of the 2000's...but on the other hand, it's Lemmy!

If you've never seen Motorhead before you should see them at least once in your life. Warning..you will have a high pitched whistle in your ears for the next couple of days but it's a small price to pay. I've seen them three times..the last time was the 'Christmas Party on the last night of the Bomber tour (with the original line up of Lemmy, Fast Eddie Clarke and 'Philthy Animal' Taylor). I've no idea if Lemmy has mellowed with age but somehow i doubt it.

Yikes! Papa Roach=no talent crap....Hinder=crap....I'm sorry my friend, but I can't stand those bands....I can stand Nickelback, some of their stuff is decent, but some is pretty bad too. Papa Roach is the one band that rivals Green Day for how much hatred I have for them. I can only think of one Saving Abel song and that sucks too....
P.S. Better go to Motorhead if you haven't seen them yet...cuz who knows how many more chances you will get to see them.

Papa Roach and Hinder I can tollerate, I don't find them that bad. I think I'd rather see them than seeing Buckcherry (Cruefest) and Green Day again (Hate....HAAAATE Buckcherry)....As someone who plays guitar I can appreciate Nickelback, although they don't do any jaw dropping playing they do show hints of technique (sweep picking etc..and at least an attempt at soloing). They're also pretty big Pantera fans from what I understand...
Saving Abel, indifferent. Haven't heard enough of them yet....
dimebagdustin
Good call on Buckcherry....they are terrible.
Being a bartender, there are three songs that I would be incredibly happy if I never hear again....it seems everyone who plays the jukebox plays these same three horrible songs:
Buckcherry - Crazy B*tch
Nickelback - Rock Star
Hinder - Lips of an Angel

Thinking about getting tickets to see Alice Cooper play Nottingham; probably because he's doing a lot of adverts on Channel 4..but he is a Rock God and must be seen once in a lifetime imo. This will be shortly after seeing Pepa Pig. Nothing like a bit of variety.....

Going to "Head to Hed Tour" on Monday with a big group of friends. Mushroomhead and (hed) p.e.
elmer_elephant
I haven't really been to any big gigs in a while the last three i went to were
Foo fighters - earls court - about 4 years ago
Damien rice - BIC - about two years ago
Funeral for a friend - Lemon grove - about a year ago
I don't really get the chance any more seeing that i'm really far away from big towns and citys, even to exeter the trains don't run that late back.
But i do love live music, i see local bands and stuff at the SU most weekends.
paulbg2000
Got my wife tickets for Christmas to see Hedley....went last night.
Hedley, although not really my type of thing was actually pretty refreshing and energetic. All three opening bands really sucked (Fefe Dobson, Stereos, Girls Like Boys). There's something about bands using voice effects live that really makes them get old quickly. None of the openers were really that entertaining....
We also got my daughter some Justin Bieber tickets as a surprise gift  not sure how I'll make it out of that one...That one's in August.
Just bought my son tickets for his Birthday to see the Gruesome Twosome tour!!! (YES!!!!! Finally some testosterone!) Alice Cooper and Rob Zombie!!!! Really looking forward to it as I haven't seen either of them live before but love 90% of the stuff they've put out.

I'm going tomorrow night!!! Really excited. I've seen Rob Zombie three times already, but I've never seen Alice. Can't wait....if it was up to me, the set list would be something like this:
"No More Mr. Nice Guy"
"Welcome to My Nightmare"
"Feed My Frankenstein"
"Under My Wheels"
"Generation Landslide"
"Billion Dollar Babies"
"Only Women Bleed"
"Lost in America"
"Poison"

"I'm Eighteen"
"School's Out"

"Dead Babies"
"Is It My Body"

My mate and I went to see the brilliant Gogol Bordello on Friday. Amazing gig but, Christ on a bike, were they LOUD or wot!? They had their bass and lead guitar turned up to 11. They're a semi acoustic band (accordian, violin and acousic guitar..all mic'd up though) but you could barely hear the accordian except when he solo'd. But the gig itself was amazing and I'm really glad I went but my ears were still ringing Saturday morning...and I haven't experienced that soince I saw Motorhead!
I guess it's a real sign of ageing when you complain the music is too loud! :o

I'd heard of them before but hadn't ever taken any notice until I watched Everything Is Illuminated where one of the main characters is the singer from Gogol Bordello. Also, the rest of the band appear in the movie at the train station - my favourite scene in the movie - playing the American national anthem. The song at the end, think it's called Start Wearing Purple, is pretty great and I could see myself listening to more of their stuff on this alone. Any recommended albums for someone almost completely unfamiliar with the band to listen to?

Tell me about it...$11.11 for ticket plus tax plus the standard ticketmaster fee $8 something...still came to $41 for two tickets...and they're actual seats and not lawns (outdoor venue)....

I still remember Gogol Bordello from when they did some charity concert with Madonna [it was on the telly ages ago]. Thought it was an awesome performance, although someone did once liken their music to 'the sort of thing you listen to whilst on holiday performed by a local band, buy it to take home and then feel embarrassed about it and never listen to it again. I would like some of their stuff, though. Utube is calling to me.....

Summer is shaping up to be a pretty good one....
Iron Maiden - July
Megadeth / Slayer / Testament - July
*cough* Justin Bieber *cough* - August
Kiss - September
I had to pass on Rush (i've seen them three times already...) hoping I can score some free tickets to that one....and also waiting for the Goo Goo Dolls (guilty pleasure) to go on sale...and that should wrap my Summer up I think. I am taking my daughter to Bieber with my wife....I was able to get out of Taylor Swift last month and Jonas / Demi Lovato in September due to work!!! (thank god!)

They're on the Time Machine tour so they actually played Moving Pictured in its entirety last night!!! Amazing show, even pulled out a few rarities (Never heard Presto played live before)...Every time I see them, they seem to get better and better and always pack in the songs...They played for almost 3 hours last night...Last time I was over in the U.K. and heavily into Rush, nobody over there seemed to really know about them...I know the Show of Hands album was recorded over there in London I think, but I was surprised about how little people I talked to had heard of them...then again, I was 16 and I don't think a lot of 16 years olds are into Rush (during the grunge years)....
Got an offer for $5 tickets to Kid Rock / Bon Jovi via work so I got the wife a pair for her Birthday...she also got tickets to see The Goo Goo Dolls (which I admit is a guilty pleasure of mine, their older stuff was a lot harder then the new radio friendly stuff they churn out)....Bon Jovi on Wednesday, Goos next Sunday....Kid Rock seems a bit dated now, almost gimmicky.
dimebagdustin
Not as big as Rush, but I got to see Fear Factory for the first time last night. I really like the smaller club shows over the big stadium shows. It was one of the best shows I've seen in a long time....wait, one of the best shows I've seen ever. Might be in my top 10.

Iron Maiden tomorrow night. Whoo!

Iron Maiden tomorrow night. Whoo!
They were pretty tight as usual when we saw them! They stuck to most of the new material (Brave New World onwards) so don't expect a ton of oldies in there, the stage setup was pretty cool too....I imagine once the new album comes out they'll be able to fully utilize the stage with songs....Should be a great show!!!!
