I watched a real gem of a movie last night. Wings of The Morning 1937. It was the first technicolor film made in Great Britian, and Jack Cardiff was the cameraman no less. It was a good bit of fun. It stars a very young Henry Fonda and the French actress Annabella. And many beautiful horses.

You can check out all the particulars yourself. It really is worth trying to find, just from the historical aspect of it being a first for technicolor in the UK. I got it at my public library.

Also on the same DVD is St. Martin's Lane 1938, also know as Sidewalks of London. It is a real gem as well, starring Vivien Leigh, Charles Laughton and Rex Harrison.
It's about buskers (street performers) in the London theater district. Laughton takes Leigh under his wing and includes her in his street performing act. She, before long, becomes the darling of the London theater, thanks to Rex Harrison. It is really a poignant love story, Laughton giving the best performance of the three. I enjoyed the hell out of this film.

And I must say Vivien Leigh can sure play a self-centered, self-absobed bitch to a tee.
