Any Oz fans on here? It was originally on TV between 1997 and 2003 but I only picked it up last year. The main reason behind this is probably that when it was shown over here in the UK, it was given a late night/early morning slot on Channel 4 and therefore it slipped under my radar and I never got the chance to watch it. But having seen the first 5 seasons on DVD now, I'd have to say it's in my top 3 TV shows of all time! Seasons 1 and 2 are phenomenal, 3 was a bit weak but they came back well with 4 and 5. Season 6 is out on DVD here on Monday, so I'm looking forward to finishing off the series.
So, has anyone else ever watched Oz?

I'm the number one fan of a different Oz altogether.

And yeah I got all excited and thought it was about me.
So, has anyone else ever watched Oz?Oh so that was you peeking in my window the other night.
Ok sorry, no I have never watched it.

I caught series 3 & 4 on Channel 4 but they never showed anymore as far as I know. I thought it was an awesome show..really violent and surprisingly graphic with the depiction of sexual activeity in the prison.
Every time I see J.K Simmons in another role I always think 'Oh it's the leader of the White Supremacists from Oz!'

I'm a huge Oz fan. As a show it was just so shocking and different to everything else on tv at the time. Although at points it walked the line of Soap Opera.
Charlie I completely agree with JK Simmons, he will always be Vern Schillinger to me. It's funny because he seems to have a very natural talent for comedic supporting roles e.g. Spider Man, Juno and Burn After Reading, but despite this I'll always remember him as a psychotic Nazi.

This is my all-time favorite TV series. I just rewatched the entire series with my girlfriend. It was great to start all the way back w/the first episode and watch it all the way through to the end again.

Ahhh! How romantic! Nothing like muscle bound , tattooed cons killing and raping each other to make your partner 'all snuggly'.. ;)

LOL, oh, there are worse things than that but I think it's too graphic even for CTF!

Nice! I'd say it's my all-time favourite TV series too. I've been watching The Wire recently which is very good but I'd still rank Oz as better. I've also been watching Lost but I doubt that would even make my top 20 to be honest. Who would you say was your favourite character in Oz? Adebisi or Schillinger for me.

Ryan O'Reily hands down. My fav ever since Season 1.
I just watched the 3rd ep of Season 4 of The Wire tonight. I'm liking it so far but I think Season 2 might be my favorite up until this point.

Ryan O'Reilly is fantastic. I remember hating him from the first few episodes, then you gradually see how clever he is and how much of a great character he is. I can't believe I forgot to mention Kareem Said. I really need to re-watch the complete series.

I just loved how smart Ryan was. Intelligence wasn't widespread throughout Oz. Miguel Alvarez was another favorite of mine.
Sometimes I loved Said and other times I was kinda like, "Eh, give it a rest." ;)

Said, played by British actor Eamonn Walker first came to prominance in the UK as the very camp, gay 'home help' to Alf Garnett in 'In Sickness and In Health'..which was the sequel series to 'Til Death Us Do Part'...which became 'All In The Family' in the US.
So..if you can imagine a widowed Archie Bunker having his house work done and meals prepared by a very, very camp gay black guy who deliberately 'upped' his gayness level to antagonise him...and the next time you see the same actor he's Said in OZ..it's a bit of a shock!
